たてやま発見伝: 110 impressive cards from Bellingham, WA, USA

１１月２８日付けのブログで、「米国ベリンハムから届いた１１０通の便り」と題して、米国ベリンハム市から館山市の小学生に届いたグリーティングカードの詳細をご紹介しました。

ベリンハム市ノーザンハイツ小学校の子どもたちや先生方にも、この記事を読んでいただきたいなと思い、英語バージョンを作成しました。

書いてある内容は11/28付けのブログとまったく同じですのでおことわりしておきますね。

今回の英訳については（いや、今回の英訳について“も”ですね）、館山市企画課の国際化推進員の山口さんに依頼したことは言うまでもありません。

I would like to introduce some greeting cards we received from the United States of America.

When I send cards to the states, I made some requests to Mrs. Candini who is organizing this card exchange in Northern Heights Elementary School.

“Please ask your children to put Tateyama children’s name.

For example, if your children received a card from Taro, address To Taro.”

“Also, if Tateyama children asked question on their card, please tell your children to answer those questions.”

I really appreciate Mrs. Candini told my requests to her children.

Now I am gong to give you some cards ask to Bellingham friend and the answer to Tateyama friend.

＜Asking and Answering Questions＞

No. 1

The card above is from Tateyama asking a question.

“I am ten years old. I will request video game software to Santa Claus.

What are you going to request?”

And Bellingham friend answers as “I am going to request a sled.”

No. 2

The card above is from Tateyama.

And it says “I like violet and strawberry and chocolate.”

It’s a good example that hard work of child well-transmitted.

To answer that card, Bellingham friends wrote “We also like chocolate, strawberries, and the color violet.”

In this card they also wrote,

“Thank you so much for your awesome card!”

“I love how you made the mountain and the little person.”

“You are a really good artist. You made the person look like, a person!”

We can see how Bellingham friends are so excited about receiving Tateyama friend’s card.

I was surprised about Tateyama friend made Bellingham friend impressed by sending greeting cards.

And I also surprised how Bellingham friends are able to tell their happy feelings about receiving cards.

Don’t you think this exchange is so attractive?

There are some other attractive things in this card exchange.

I would like to introduce them as well.

＜Book Marks＞

One Tateyama friend made a book mark and put it on her card.

This is the card with a book mark.

It’s like a card saying “This is the Japanese culture!” And there are also Tateyama castle and the flower of Tateyama “camellia”

I wish I could submit this card to National Greeting Contest if there is such a contest.

Three Bellingham friends made answer card for her.

I guess they thought “We have bookmarks in Bellingham too” “I want to send a card with a bookmark to Tateyama!”

This is the one of card with bookmark.

It is exactly a cultural exchange!

＜Dappei＞

When I sent cards to Bellingham, I enclosed stickers of Dappei, which is a mascot character of Tateyama.

Then, some Bellingham friends used Dappei’s sticker on their cards.

I am going to introduce some of their cards.

This is Dappei’s sticker (I send 120 of them)

This friend is good at using stickers.

I guess this card’s Japanese were translated by automatic translating machine. It sounds little strange, but I can sense what he wants to say except one thing which is the word “天目”. Let me know if anyone can understand the meaning.

Dappei might be more popular than I have imagined J
